FOREST & WATERFALLSADVENTURE, HILL STATION, MADHYA PARDESH, TRAVEL
When I was planning my 10 days trip around Madhya Pardesh, Pachmarhi was not the part of my itinerary. Then a friend suggest me to add Pachmarhi in the list, honestly I did not heard much about the place. But after surfing net for a while, I got to knew that Pachmarhi is the only hill town of Madhya Pradesh famous for its forest and waterfalls.

This town has average elevation of 1100 meters. Dhupgarh, the highest point of Madhya Pradesh at 1350 meter also located in this region. Bison Lodge is the oldest building of Pachmarhi town. It was constructed in 1862 as a temporary residence of Captain Forsyth then forest officer. Captain and his team use to stay here during exploration and survey of the surrounding forests. In the later period this town developed as a British military station.

Even, as on today most of the part of Pachmarhi covered with military cant and very little area for the civil town. Now this is converted into a museum and information center for the tourists. Forest and Waterfalls around Pachmarhi
Pandav Gufa

Pandav Gufa at Pachmarhi
The very first landmark that draw your attention is Pandav Gufa, This is a group of five rock cut shelter and believed to have a close connection with Pandavas (Characters of Mahabharata). Pachmarhi got its name because of these five rock cut shelters. It is believed Pandavas had spent some time here during their exile period.

But a study tells that these rock cut structure belongs to Gupta periods ( approx 1500 years old) and was dug for the Buddhist monks.

Best point in The Pachmarhi Dhupgarh

Best Point in The Pachmarhi

Pachmarhi tour points details,

About pachmarhi

Mount Dhupgarh or Dhoopgarh is the highest point in the Mahadeo Hills (Satpura Range), Madhya Pradesh, India. Located in Pachmarhi, it has an elevation of 1,352 metres (4,429 ft).The top of the hill is a popular area to watch sunsets. Pachmarhi Hill station is located close to the peak.

The whole thing is there are two points at Dhupgarh, one is called sunrise point, another is called sunset point. The place is little distance from Pachmarhi town and the motorable road is good and there are photogenic spots. Up above, one gets a chance to view the wide deep valleys, high cliffs and enjoy the fresh air, observe the sun rise or sun set as per your visit timings. It is simply an experience to go deep into your soul, can't be narrated in words. Facility-wise the place is lonely some. You can wind up your stay in less than a hour to an hour (minus journey time). Sorry no food rewards, Carry your own Water bottle and snacks. This is a Place on tourist itinerary of all travel advisers and is a worthy acceptable destination for visiting once.

Dhoopgarh is in the dense forest and is the heighest point of satpuda range. One need to pay for forest entry fees and can enter the forest before 5:00 pm. All forest points will be closed on Wed. So do not plan your trip on this day.

Road to the point is excellent. One can go there by hired Gypse also in good personal car. Roads are typically hilly and driver must be experienced to drive on such roads. Ample of car parking available on the top of the hill.

The sunrise point and sunset points are major attraction at Dhoopgarh. Sunrise point is not possible as forest department does not give permit to enter forest before 08:00 AM. The sunset is wonderfull and i think the best after sunset at KanyaKumari, TN. The "Doondh" appearing after sunset might be the reason for named this place as Dhoopgarh.

Excellent Photographic View
What an amazing place...very good place i think it must be the best one where i could have rest and what a silent atmosphere...good fast cold breeze...must be like you are in a heaven...Truly recommended..GO For it

Pachmarhi is a hill station in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh state of central India. It has been the location of a cantonment (Pachmarhi Cantonment)

History

The name Pachmarhi is believed to be derived from the Hindi words Panch ("five") and Marhi ("caves"). According to a legend, these caves were built by five Pandava brothers of Mahabharatha era during their fourteen years of exile. The caves are situated on a hilltop and provide an excellent vantage point.

Before British the Pachmarhi region came under the kingdom of the Gond king Bhawut Singh, although it was not a populated village or town at that time. Captain James Forsyth of the British Army along with Subhedar Major Nathoo Ramji Powar who was later made the Kotwal (Incharge of the armoury (Koth)of Pachmarhi, spotted the plateau in the Pachmarhi region in 1857, while leading his troops on the way to Jhansi.[3] It quickly developed into hill station and sanatorium for British troops in the Central Provinces of India.

The population in 1901 was 3,020, rising to double that number in the hot summer months. Pachmarhi also served as the summer capital for the Central Provinces.

The forest around the town is home to many rare varieties of plants. UNESCO added Pachmarhi park to its list of Biosphere Reserves in May 2009. The total area of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is 4981.72 km2. It is located at longitude 22° 11’ to 22° 50’N and latitude 77° 47’ to 78° 52’E. It covers parts of three civil districts, viz., Hoshangabad (59.55%), Chhindwara (29.19%) and Betul (11.26%). It includes three wildlife conservation units viz., Bori Sanctuary 485.72 km2), Satpura National Park (524.37 km2) and Pachmarhi Sanctuary (491.63 km2).[4][5].
